In the 3rd quarter of the game, 51 and a lineman for AF were engaged in a block to the whistle. After the whistle both players take a step back and then 51 takes a swing from his hip with closed fist to the AF players head and contacts. The East coach witnessed this and as my flag was flying did yell to his player to get over to the sideline. I then heard the coach tell the player that was dumb and now he gets to sit next game as well. The game proceeded without further incident. (I am spelling 51 based on my best guess on the coach telling us the name.) |

In the first half, my partner gave the coach an administrative warning for poor conduct. Moments later had to issue a technical foul. The coach told him that there is a reason that we were officiating the game and we were not good enough for that level. He then repeated that to me when I stepped in to remove my partner from the situation. At half time, I told my partner that we would make sure and keep rotating in order to keep him away from the coach. At the end of the 3rd quarter I noticed my partner was in the end of that team and went and forced the rotation, the band started playing so we were unable to hear exactly what the coach was yelling at my partner. Just under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, WRA player drove to the hoop and was blocked and the ball was given back to WRA under the basket. I switched sides and was in front of the coach, raised my hand for the inbound when the coach told me to check my wallet. I turned around and gave him his 2nd T and told him he needed to leave. He thanked me and told me it was about time. He then yelled to my partner to check his wallet because he had been cheating his kids all night. He then told me he was not leaving the floor and stood on the floor and stared at my partner. I could not see the administrator who was around the corner and I asked the Sheriff Deputy to please escort him from the floor. The coach then told the deputy that he would have to slap the cuffs on him to get him to leave. The deputy then placed his hand on his back and said, sir lets please go. The coach yelled don't touch me and then the 2 deputies and administrator escorted him out and stood by him in the tunnel through the remainder of the game. The coach refused to leave the confines of the arena. He stood where he could continue to stare at us every time we were at his end of the floor. When I first noticed this, I informed my partner that we would be exiting the floor at the opposite end of normal exiting. |

In the second half of this JV game, the intensity started to pick up with both teams being a little more physical than in the first half. On a drive to the hole, number 22 felt like he got fouled. I was at Trail, when I noticed he was starting to run with some intensity. I noticed the look in his eye and followed him as he ran in front of Salem Hills player and ran with him for about five or six steps. After crossing half court, he turned over his right shoulder looked at the player and punched him in the groin. I was no more than five or six feet from the players when this happened. I had an extremely good view of the punch and I know exactly what I saw. I immediately gave him a technical and ejected him from the game. I explained to the coach what happened, and he did not argue he just wondered if it was necessary for the ejection. I informed him that it was my judgment that the intention was there to warrant the action which I gave the player.
The Orem coach had warned me that the Salem Hills player was really rough with that particular player in the sophomore game before this. I let him know that I was not on the game and I’m here to officiate this game, however it should be noted that the player that got punched did end up receiving an intentional foul near the end of the game for elbowing a player in the chest with two players on the ground. |
