Zach Wilson BoysBasketball 2017-01-24 Matt Basham Referee: Matt Basham U1: Brad Carpenter U2: Rob Jones Corner Canyon had the last possession of the 4th quarter with time running short in a tie game. Matt Basham was at the trail position, Rob Jones at center, and Brad Carpenter was at lead. Corner Canyon attempted a drive to the basket and missed the shot. Provo got the rebound and missed a ¾ court shot as time expired with the score tied. I went to go retrieve the ball on Provo’s baseline and walked towards the scorer’s table. Brad came and told me that he had a technical foul on #1 for Corner Canyon and then reported it. I got Brad to discuss the situation regarding the technical foul. Brad stated that after time expired #1 for Corner Canyon came to him and said, “I fucking got hit on the shot!” Brad told #1 that he did not see a foul and, “Let’s go get ready for overtime.” At this point #1 shoves Brad in the stomach/chest area. I asked Brad to confirm what I understood to be intentional contact with him by #1, which Brad confirmed. With that being the case we informed the scorer that #1’s technical foul was flagrant and resulted in his disqualification. Brad and I got both coaches together to explain the situation involving the technical foul. The crew then got together again to discuss the administration of the flagrant technical foul. It was decided by the crew that Provo would be awarded two free throws as if the foul had been part of the 4th quarter. Provo made the first of two free throws and the game ended with Provo winning by one point. The way the penalty was administered was a misapplication of rule 5-6-4. Given the tie score, there was an extra period to be played; the two technical fouls should have been administered to start the overtime period. Then Provo would receive the ball for throw in at midcourt and Corner Canyon would have the possession arrow. Matt Basham
kingsley Holiday Wrestling 2018-01-31 Daniel Hillery During the consolation 285-pound match number 300 Kingsley Holiday of Corner Canyon High School was wrestling Mackie Christensen of Alta High School. Christensen took Holiday to the mat in a near fall situation. As near fall was being counted it was observed Holiday was injured and the situation needed to be stopped. As I started to blow the whistle to start the stoppage for injury time Holiday started screaming obscenities at Christensen and striking him in the face. At this time, it was determined Flagrant Misconduct rules, 7-4-3, had been violated by Holiday. I was able to separate the two wrestlers before any further strikes or attacks happened. Coach’s from both schools were asked to come onto the mat to ensure the wrestlers were separated. I indicated the signal for flagrant misconduct, which removed Holiday from further participation in the event and 3 team points would be deducted from Corner Canyon because of the Flagrant Misconduct action of Holiday. The Corner Canyon coach was made aware of the infraction and team point deduction as well has the head table.
L. Jackson Baseball 03-29-2018 Mike Soderborg I ejected #34 L. Jackson of Corner Cannon in game two of the 4th inning at Corner Cannon vs Salem Hills. #34 L. Jackson of Corner Cannon was in violation NFHS baseball rule 3-3-1m and the violation was judged to be malicious, in which case an ejection occurred. During the 4th inning of game two with Corner Cannon at bat, R1 was at second base with one out. The batter hit a line drive to center field. On the hit, R1 advanced from second base to home. The throw arrived at home plate before R1, #34 L. Jackson, started his head first slide into home. R1’s head first slide at home was judged to be way too late of a slide & judged to be way too high up the leg of the catcher and this was considered malicious so he was immediately ejected.
