During the junior varsity match, varsity coach Ryan Rumfallo stated the referees were racist. Referring to player Beverly Amoah, he said “Because you gave her a yellow, you're not going to give her a call, because you don't like her [race]!” Later, he said “Your giving a dark-skinned player a yellow is going to be called into question!”
Early in the first half, Amoah delayed a Weber free kick by running from 15 yards behind the direction of the kick, stopping immediately in front of the ball, and “adjusting” her socks for 20 seconds. She made no changes to the condition of her socks. She simply repeatedly moved the top of each sock slightly up and down. Referees allow illegal—some trifling, some not-so-trifling—delays to a restart. In this competition, in the entirety of both matches, no delaying tactics were used by either side, other than Amoah. The act was blatant, overt, and, to emphasize, unique. This is failing to respect a distance, but I issued a verbal warning.
Later in the first half, Amoah was cautioned for unsporting behavior. (See separate entry.)
Up to this point in the match, Amoah was issued a verbal warning for a cautionable offense, and a caution for a dismissable offense.
Early in the second half, Amoah, as left forward, was possessing the ball and moving into the attacking third, approximately halfway between the touchline and the center line. At the 20 yard line, she cut right, toward the goal, and was met by a Weber defender in a fair challenge. Amoah lost possession and fell to the ground.
We were refereeing in a two-man system. I was at the half line, 30 yards from the play, watching on the north-south axis. My partner Karen Grant was at the 18 yard line, 20 yards from the play, watching on the east-west axis. We were in ideal positions to make a call. As Amoah cut right, she was moving toward Karen. Since the play was in Karen's half—and she was closer and had a clear look—it was “her call.” However, I could call it too. Neither of us saw a foul by Weber.
Rumfallo yelled at me, “You're not going to call that?”
I replied, “Coach, there was no foul.”
Rumfallo gestured wildly and screamed, “Because you gave her a yellow, you're not going to give her a call, because you don't like her [race]!”
I stopped play and dismissed Rumfallo. He said “I'm not leaving! I'm calling my principal! You're leaving!” He did not leave.
I crossed the field to confer with Karen. I asked Karen if Amoah was fouled. Karen was adamant Amoah was not fouled. I asked Karen if she was racist, and if bias or bigotry influenced her judgement. Again, Karen was adamant Amoah was not fouled. I told Karen I dismissed Rumfallo for accusing us of racism, and we would leave if he did not. She agreed.
I re-crossed the field to again dismiss Rumfallo. He asked, “We can't talk about a call? You're going to make me leave without giving me a warning first?”
I replied, “Coach, we're happy to talk about calls, and we're happy to give warnings. This is not that. This is bringing the game into disrepute. This is a personal attack. You have called our professionalism into question.”
He responded, “Your giving a dark-skinned player a yellow is going to be called into question!”
Eventually he left the immediate area of the field, and play was restarted. |

At half-time, Coach Kooyman of Highland rushed towards the referees, interrupting their half-time conference, and in a very loud and public manner excoriated them for the officiating of the first half. As the referee, I found the manner of approach, tone of voice and volume to be offensive and abusive. Additionally, the public nature of his comments, in the middle of the field at a loud volume, served to further agitate the Highland supporters resulting in an increase in offensive comments from the stands.
After an attempt to verbally deescalate the situation, which was totally ignored by Coach Kooyman, he was shown a red card and disqualified from the remainder of the game for violation of NFHS Rule 12-8-2(f) a player, coach or bench personnel shall be disqualified (red card) for using insulting, offensive or abusive language or gesture.
and
Rule 18-8-2(b) a player, coach or bench personnel shall be disqualified (red card) for taunting - use of WORD or ACT to INCITE or DEGRADE an opposing player, coach, REFEREE or other individual. (emphasis mine).
To his credit, when shown the Red Card, Coach Kooyman shut his mouth, and calmly left the vicinity of the game. He returned at the conclusion of the varsity game and met with his team, but stayed well away from the officials. He was in the area of the game throughout the JV game, but did not attempt to coach and made no comments to the officials. |

Game #42256 (Officiated under Dual Control System)
In the 10th minute of the first half, MHS player #14 Kaili Dastrup was attacking the BHS goal and went to ground after minor contact with a BHS player while in the penalty area. MHS #14 arched her back flailed her arms and let out a loud grunt as if violently fouled. In the opinion of this referee, if MHS #14 was not actually simulating a foul, her behavior was theatrical at best. In the opinion of this official, no foul had been committed by the BHS opponent. However, as this incident was very early into the game and the ball was in the possession of the BHS keeper who quickly punted the ball downfield, this official chose to neither warn nor caution MHS #14. This play was approximately 12 yards away from this official who had a clear view of the events.
In the 26th minute of the first half, MHS player #14 Kaili Dastrup was in the MHS attacking half when she again made a loud grunt as if violently fouled when a BHS player made a fair charge of very minor and very brief shoulder-to-shoulder contact and well within the rules as allowable. I must reiterate, very minor contact occurred. BHS was in possession of the ball and had begun a counter attack; therefore, this official again chose not to warn or caution MHS #14 as the run of play was a rapid counter attack by BHS. This play was within 5 yards of this official who again had a clear view of the events.
MHS #14 tracked down the perceived offending BHS player approximately 10 to 15 yards away in the center circle. MHS #14 shoved the BHS player in the back, who went to ground. This play was within 15 yards of this official who had an unobstructed view of the play.
This official blew the whistle indicating a foul (pushing) against MHS #14. This official instructed MHS #14 to approach and very sternly warned her against retaliation. This official did not yell, but was very stern and forceful as the offense by MHS #14 was well outside the run of play of the game to that point (and thereafter). In the opinion of this official, as this player had not been warned about simulation and as this was a JV game, the stern warning would be appropriate without caution.
While this official was very sternly warning MHS player #14 against retaliation, she repeatedly attempted to point out the perceived offense against her by the BHS player, whereupon, this official explained the conditional nature of pushing and that simulation and retaliation were both cautionable.
After the warning was complete and play was being ready for restart, MHS Coach Dale Josse, began yelling, “Don’t yell at my player, I can hear you.” Whereupon, this official instituted the “ask, tell, dismiss” protocol. First, this official placed his finger over his lips making the well-recognized gesture for “shhhh” then used both hands palms downward moving slightly towards the ground making the well-recognized gesture for calm down.
At this MHS Coach Josse again yelled “Don’t yell at my player, you're in her face.” N.B.: This referee did not yell at the player and was at least 3 feet away from the player; albiet, this official was taller, yet this official wanted to send a forceful message. (At halftime, this referee conferred with the other member of the referee team Christopher Olsen to confirm this referee was stern but not yelling. Olsen agree and stated in his opinion MHS #14’s conduct may have warranted caution or dismissal). This official then told Coach Josse not to yell at the official. Josse continued to yell “Don’t yell at my my player.” This official told Josse not to cease yelling and took my book out of my pocket to indicate that should the coach continue, he would be cautioned. Coach Josse yelled “Oh, big man.” Whereupon, this official cautioned Coach Josse for dissent.
Coach Josse continued to yell "Oh big man, you have all the power" and other similar personal comments, whereupon this official issued a subsequent caution for dissent and disqualified Coach Josse.
N.B.: Coach Josse was not cautioned for yelling. Coach Josse was cautioned initially and subsequently for yelling insults that were in the opinion of this referee personal against this official which would have degraded the official's ability to control the game. Further, in the opinion of this referee, Coach Josse's conduct reflects poorly on his influence on players and spectators and undermines the integrity and dignity of the game. In fact, after Josse had been disqualified, a MHS player trapped the ball between her legs while on the ground in the BHS penalty area. This official blew his whistle and called an indirect free kick for BHS and an infraction against MHS for dangerous play. Several MHS players yelled to each other "Let's just play our game" as if the ruling was unfair. In the opinion of this referee, such jaundiced viewpoint by the MHS team was directly and proximately caused by Coach Josse's earlier dissent which became personal in nature. |

Ms. James then cooperated and began to leave the field, but as she walked past me toward her team area and before I beckoned on a substitute to replace Ms. James, Ms. James called me a "bitch." As a result of this remark, Ms. James was determined to be guilty of using insulting language toward the referee. Accordingly, Ms. James was disqualified and shown the red card. This card followed the issue of a caution for dissent, however, it is not for a second caution. Because the language was both loud and abusive, the red card was shown without a second yellow. The report follows:
In the first half, I called two fouls against MV that occurred against #10 of Provo. One was for tripping and the other for pushing. In both cases she went to the ground. After the second foul, I spoke with #10 in which I indicated that I suspected that she might be diving to embellish the foul. I told her that I was watching and that if she was diving she needed to stop.
In the second half, in the 57th minute of play, she was trying to play around a MV player. There was contact, but #10 then launched herself to the ground. I did not signal a foul. I was not 100% sure that the contact constituted a foul, and based upon previous play, as described above, I allowed the play to continue. #10 questioned my no-call, so I replied, as I followed play, that I judged her going to the ground to be a dive. She ran after me yelling about my not calling the foul. As the ball was cleared back to her team, the dissent was so vocal that I stopped play and issued her a yellow card. She then yelled, "You're and idiot!" We were standing in the center circle at this time. Upon her yelling at me that I was an idiot, I issued a direct red card for abusive language. I turned to leave her vicinity and she followed me again yelling, "You're full of shit!" I continued to try to leave her proximity and headed toward my linesman, Tim McCarthy. #10 continued to pursue me, yelling. However, at this point, I do not remember what she actually said, as I was just trying to create space between us. I then saw the Provo coach and loudly requested that he come and get his player away from me.
I'm not sure why his reaction was (or seemed) so delayed. To me it seemed like a long time. I changed my direction and started towards him and yelled again for him to get her away from me. I'm not completely sure whether it was after this second request, or if it required a third before he finally called to her to stop. She did not immediately stop. She followed me wherever I went.
Finally the coach actually came onto the field. I asked him (I'm sure my voice was not under control at this point.) to take care of her. He did finally get her to stop pursuing me. Then he stood with me (instead of accompanying her off the field) and engaged me. I kept asking him to just go take care of his player. He seemed to linger with me for a long time. As I turned to leave, because the conversation with him seemed futile, he parted with a dissent, so I issued him a yellow card, as well. |

During the goal kick restart Mr. Wilson looked straight at the Fremont defender, made a sprint towards him, and then deliberately gave a two handed shove into the back of the Fremont player.
I saw intent to hurt or intimidate a player with the push in the back. Also, I could not see any reason why Mr. Wilson needed to make contact with the other player and with this happening relatively early in the game Mr. Wilson was ejected from the game for Violent Conduct. It could not be serious foul play as the play was no where near the two players. |

Several times during the match this player was asked to keep his emotions in check and not make personal degrading remarks at the officiating crew. It did not matter if it was the assistant referee or the center referee calling fouls, Luke would show his complete displeasure by loudly and verbally disagreeing with the calls that were being made. Several verbal warnings were made to Luke to stop his personal public comments. My goal was to manage the player through verbal communication telling him stop rather than issuing a caution.
During the 36 minute in the second half, the assistant referee raised his flag. I talked with the assistant referee away from play, and I was instructed by the assistant referee that a Springville player needed to be cautioned for telling the assistant referee the foul he just called was a bullshit foul. As I was seeking out the player to issue the caution, Luke who was not involved with the situation, came running over to where I was showing his teammate the caution, and in a loud public voice launched into a tirade degrading the officiating team, and publicly further undermining the authority of the officiating crew.
In my opinion the issuing of the yellow card to his teammate had nothing to do with Luke. When Luke ran to the spot where the caution was being shown to his teammate,
he involved himself using targeted, personal, undermining language and he needed to be sent off. Section 8 article 2b states use of word or act to incite or degrade an opposing player, coach referee or other individual. |

1st caution. I Told Matthew he had to leave the field due to blood on his knee and coming through his white sock. When I wouldn't let him stay when he pulled his sock up over the blood he was leaving the field and very loudly said "This is fucking stupid". Given that it was not directed at anyone, I figured a caution would suffice and get the point across.
2nd Caution. Matthew had been involved in a few different incidents with pushing other players and a few fouls. On the foul that he received the 2nd caution for, it started out as him and an opponent getting tangled with each other, as he was trying to keep going, he got frustrated and made a kicking motion with his leg that was tangled with the opponent causing them both to fall.
*** After the game he wanted to debate the decision for the 2nd caution, I told him to leave and that we were not discussing the situation. He then said "Oh my God, you're a fucking moron" |

Score was 3-0. I made it clear to everyone prior to this caution to leave the ball alone when its not your ball. Bountiful was using many tactics to stall the game as they were leading
@ the 89 minute Lyes Mezine tactically fouled box elder attacker by pulling his arm back so Mr Mezine could gain position on a promising attack just 10 yards from outside the penalty box. This fouls was a Tactical foul and required a caution, as Mr Mezine was shown his second yellow and red card. the score was 3-1 Bountiful when this occured |

ALEX KRELO |
Mr. Hoffman @ the end of the game decided to approach me as i was on the spectator side of the field near mid field to ask my about the second caution I gave to #10 Lyes Mezine @ the 89 minute. I as I was attempting to give him a explanation. Mr Hoffman kept interrupting me as I was explaining to him the reasoning. Mr Hoffman wanted to argue about other fouls in the game. I was firm with him in saying that tactical fouls are not negotiable nor does it matter if its their first foul of the game, these are required and is not negotiable. He expressed how upset because they were winning 3-1 that I dont do that at the end of the game by throwing out his player as he will miss the next game. He used obstructing situations from Box Elder to my decision for tactical foul, in which I explained to him that they are not related and that I am not discussing any further with him about my decision and that I am done talking to him, due to him interrupting me and not listening. He continued to argue with me as I was walking back to my technical area and I asked him to stop talking to me, in is response he would mock me in telling me to stop talking to him. As I left the field into my technical area, Mr Hoffman said out loud "we all know the call was not right, but we have to realize that the referee does not see it the way we do." # 10 for Bountiful ( Lyes Mezine) approaches me to get an explanation, as I was explaining to him the reasoning for the second caution, Mr Hoffman again shouts out loud " Thats not a tactic foul" and started to argue with me again. I finally turned to him and told Mr. Hoffman that I am done talking too you and that I already gave Mr. Hoffman a explanation, as this was happening Mr Hoffman decides to walk towards me to "Show me up" as he takes a step into the technical area, I told him that he just crossed the line as I showed him the Red card.
As I was getting the roster to see who the assistant coach was, Mr Hoffman was still present next to me ( 10 feet away) after 3 minutes passes he does not leave the area, I asked him to leave the field and his reply was I am out of your area, and I said " you have to leave the field completely" He continued to argue with me more, I than told him that this will be a long report if he does not leave the field completely. Finally personals from Bountiful escorted him away as he was not going away quietly. Head Coach from Bountiful did not interact nor did he try to get his assistant away from the area, he just kept his distance and watching us while he was talking on the phone, showed no concern what so ever to help deflate the situation. My whole crew witness all of this at the end of the game to see Mr Hoffman Unacceptable Behavior towards myself as the official. |

In the 80th minute, a Hunter player was running toward the Granger goal dribbling the ball. Only the Granger goalkeeper, Angel Escobedo, was between the Hunter attacker and the goal. Mr. Escobedo dove in an attempt to challenge his opponent for the ball, but the opponent had managed to kick the ball past him. Instead, Mr. Escobedo's dive tripped the Hunter attacker and prevented him from getting to the ball. If not for this foul, the attacker would have been able to shoot the ball toward an unprotected goal with a very high likelihood of scoring. As a result, Mr. Escobedo was shown the red card for serious foul play for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent by fouling him. |

This again was one that I through out the game to talk to him and get him to just play and not be so worried about his team mates or the other team or even anything I called or did not call. Most of the time he seemed to be responsive to what I would say and would go 7 to 8 minutes sometimes less before having another out burst. Well I called on obvious off side and he did not like that at all. So he approached me and kept questioning how I could make such a call. I explain where players where when the pass was made and while I was literally two feet from him he said FUCK (something) somewhat softly as he turned and started to walk away. So I blew my whistle and showed him the red card. To which he could not believe of coarse. Funny part about this is as he turned to see me show him the card the first words from his mouth where "I didn't say anything"...........At that point I did not say that he had. So then he asked why the red card, to which I explained that kind of language is absolutely not tolerated. He said a bunch more in Spanish to some of his buddies, and I am not fluent in Spanish but know that I have heard those words referred to as not such good words either. He then slowly exited the field. |

After speaking to the player twice about this he continued to do this again and as I was pulling out a yellow card, the player blew me off and said that he didn't care what I did. I then pulled the red card and showed it to the player. The player then continued to complain and argue with me and I had to tell the player twice to leave the field after he was carded.
After the game was over, the player continued to complain to me that if I cannot take a few simple words, I should not be out there.

A Ridgeline player fouled a Logan player on the far side of field from the coaches and bench players. I blew the whistle and made the call. I was moving closer to these players to make placement for a restart. Just as I started to move Juan Lopez decided he did not like how his team mate was fouled and ran with both arms up with his forearms and body checked the Ridgeline player sending him hard to the turf. All chaos broke out. Players yelling, pushing very confusing situation. My assistant referee by the coaches, Paul Gutke was able to contain the benches and stop players and coaches from running across the field in to the mess. After every one cooled down and players removed to group with their teams. Four cards were issued. The other assistant referee Aubrey Simcox was kind of over whelmed by the intensity of the game and dazed by the whole thing after this happened. Ridgeline was playing for the region championship. Logan was playing for pride and did not want to lose to them. The game was able to be completed with about 12 minutes left in the game with only one more Yellow issued to a Ridgeline player for unsporting behavior. Ridgeline won the game two goals to Logans one. |

This was an automatic when this player #8 (Victor Benetez) from Wasatch and #8 (Chris Bestenlehner) from Uintah were battling for position and possession on the side line with approximately 1 minute left in the game. Both players were pushing pulling and then Victor held Chris's jersey pulling him toward the ground and in doing so he (Victor) tripped over Chris's leg which made him (Victor) go out of bounds. I blew my whistle to stop play for the held jersey (at this point I was about 15 yards from them and started toward the two when Chris felt the hold he tried to push Victor away from him where Victor then took a simple swing at Chris while he (Victor) was laying on the ground, and did not connect. Chris saw this, and I am sure felt it, so he took a couple pot shots that did connect and by this time I am about five feet from them still blowing my whistle trying to gain their attention. I think I had everyone's attention but theirs. Victor scrummed back and landed a hit or two of his own, and I was immediately there making sure that no other players got involved or tried to retaliate for their teams sake and keep them separate from each other. I made sure to isolate these two and had them physically sit down while I cleared the area from other players and coaches. When I say coaches I just asked them to step back a few feet and make sure that the rest of both teams keep their cool and manage them. I must say I was pleased with the coaches and even the other players to keep out of the situation and not get involved with perpetuating the fight. Everyone listened to my commands and complied. As I had the immediate situation taken care of. I took out my booklet and took some notes and names and numbers of the players. I took the few seconds there to reiterate what I started the game with, That is I mentioned to them at that time that this is a sophomore game and it is a great game of soccer to be played on a great day. There was nothing on the line for either team and that it is the best time to learn from your successes and your failures. I told them while they sat and listened that there is no room at all in the game for that kind of behavior and then showed each one the red card. After that I asked that they go to their bench respectively. |

This was a foul for recklessly charging an opponent. Due to these circumstances, Mr. Sperry was cautioned for unsporting conduct for displaying reckless play.

I tell him you both were equally holding, he nods his head in agreement and turns to continue playing.
Before the throw in Ogden player Bryan Valance-Perez runs from 20 yards away and starts yelling at me insisting I should have called a foul. He then asks why I did not call a foul. I explain to him why I did not call a foul. He disagrees with my decision and continues yelling at me in disagreement. I pull out my yellow card and card him for dissent. I point to his sideline and ask him to leave the field since he was just carded. He then begins to yell at me for showing him a card. He gets closer to me and continues to yell at me about about what he believes is a poor decision for not calling a foul and now showing him a yellow card. I blow my whistle loudly, step back, and tell the player no more or he will earn a second yellow, while I signal no more for everyone else to see. He continues to argue and again steps closer to me. I tell him to leave the field, again blow my whistle loudly, and again tell him no more while signaling no more for the crowd to see. He continues in disagreement. As soon as the game end, Jared Anderson came onto the field yelling and screaming at me. I tried ignoring him thinking it was an angry parent, he took offense and began charging at me while screaming and yelling. At this point I realized it was a coach, I turned to him, (he at one side of the center circle and myself at the the other) held out a stop sign with both hands and stated you will be red carded if you come to me. He paused for a second and charged toward me continuing his yelling and screaming. As he entered the half circle coming toward me. I pulled out my red card, holding it down. So he could see I meant it if he came to me. He continued toward me and soon began yelling and screaming in my face. I held up the red, said nothing, turned and walked away. He continued yelling for a minute but did not follow as I walked away.
After the altercation, head coach, Fritz Beckman came over in a calm and respectful manner and we spoke with the two assistants referees by my side.
I learned the altercation occurred at the end of the game because of something I said that was taken out of context. The following leads up to and includes the incident.
During the second half #13 Mathis Burton and #10 Dallin Degroot. Stated very foul language and took shots at me as a referee.
Dallin stated the following phrase toward me throughout the second half.
2x- Your are fucking moron ref.
3x- Fuck you.
2x - You Fucking suck.
6x - This is Fucking bullshit
3x - you got to be fucking kidding me.
2x - You should Fucking go home
Mathis stated the following.
8x - You suck ref.
4x - open your eyes
4x - you can't see anything
3x - your blind
Rather than card either player for there language or dissent I decided to talk into ending the bad behavior. I asked repeatedly to stop it, told them to stop it and even blew my whistle when the ball went out of bounds to call them over and tell them to knock it off. Knowing it was the end of the season and they were frustrated being down 3-0 and eventually 4-0.
After Dallin #10 directed "fucking" this and that toward me, multiple upon multiple times I turned to his Coach Fritz as the ball was out of play and asked him to help me with #10 and #13. He did nothing and they continued the unacceptable behavior.
Looking back, after I asked the Coach Fritz to help me and the behavior continued #10 Dallin Degroot should have been Red Carded and #13 Mathis Burton should have received a yellow card. However in the moment I decided that I would try to resolve this issue without cards knowing they were frustrated and that it was the end of the season. I honestly did not want to send off a player and have him be suspended for the last high school game of his career.
As the half came to the final 10 minutes they were continuing the foul language and shots direct at me. During a stoppage of play for a corner kick one the players stated "the ref is the only reason we are not going to the playoffs" while staring directly at me. I, in return stated "no, you guys don't play soccer is the real reason." Referring to them whining about every call or no call that does not go there way. They then turned to me calling me more names using "Fuck" and stating you can not say that to us.
The corner kick comes in and they all begin to play again. They do continue the foul language directed toward me when they disagree with a call. Knowing the score is 4-0 I give them a couple of foul calls. And work my way through the remainder of the game without handing out a card.

About 1/2 way into the first half I verbally asked the the head coach to stop commenting on my calls, she responded appropriately and only coache her team verbally through the rest of the game. At the end of the game which ended with a direct free kick just outside the penalty area by Weber. I had about 2 more minutes for the game than the clock on the score board due to the caution issued, and stoppage of play for a Weber injured player (leg cramps). As the wall was being moved back my watch went off indicating the end of the period. I allowed the kick to proceed almost giving card to a weber player for dissent as I was moving the wall back. The goal was scored. I allowed Weber to then kick off and attempt to tie the game, when they lost possession I ended the game. The head coach rushed out screaming and yelling at me I asked her to calm down so we could discuss as I could not even understand what she was screaming, she persisted and I showed the yellow card for caution , she continued. I asked her to calm down and backed away she continued pressing and yelling I indicated she would get a red card and ejection. She stated she "did not care" and continued pressing and was ejected. Towards the end of the game, his player went down hurt. It was not due to any contact on a recent play. She was just hurting. This was behind me. As I turned, I saw it, but the other team had possession of the ball and was attacking. I didn't stop play and he flipped out. He was demanding that I stop the play. I tried to tell him I wasn't going to as long as the attack was in progress. When the attack was over and his goalie was in control of the ball, I blew the whistle. He was screaming at me that I had to blow the whistle and I didn't know what I was doing and needed to learn the rules. I spoke with the AR and he agreed she didn't go down due to contact. Regardless, he kept yelling at me as I told him that was enough. Kept at it and I told him he was done and was ejected from the game. He agreed and went to the other side of the field behind the fans. I told him he needed to remove himself from site of the field. He left so we restarted. I saw him later behind a fence that was between 10 and 15 yards from the field. I stopped play at a throw in and told him he had to go to the bus. He asked which bus and I told him I didn't care, but that he needed to not be near the fields anymore. He told me to go focus on my game and learn the rules. |

During the first half of the JV game, the head coach of the VARSITY TEAM who was not coaching the JV team, was sitting next to the JV team on his golf cart in the team area loudly, and expressively critiquing the officiating. The AR nearest to the coach in the first half overheard him say in a loud public voice, “between the center ref and the other AR I need to take a pill or go get a drink”.
As the game, progressed comments continued loud enough for me to take notice in the middle of the field. In the 70th minute the coach threw his arms up in the air, and using his voice loud enough for me to hear in the middle of the field, it takes two handballs for you to make a call? I stopped play and asked Coach Ferrin to come speak with me near the touch line. I specifically asked him to come near the touchline, away from everyone so we could talk privately. I asked him to stop with the loud comments, and he immediately challenged me by saying “you are going to ask me over for me making that comment”, continuing his degrading tone towards the officiating crew. I said no, all the comments you are making. I followed up with enough of the comments coach, can you be done. He replied back in a loud voice "I am done, now you go do your job.” After that comment, I showed the red card to him, to which he replied you cannot card me as I am not the JV coach and I am not coaching this game. I said back to him, “coach you are in the team area, you are acting as part of the team, you are dismissed". Coach Ferrin turned around, gathered his items, and left the team area.
The issue with this incident was the nonstop public loud comments towards the officiating crew during the JV game. I approached the coach in a calm normal voice, asking the coach to stop the loud disparaging comments, and my request was immediately challenged with continued degrading comments towards the officiating crew.

Not exactly sure how to enter this one, other than I will explain the yellow then the red. So This player was playing slow and with a bit of an attitude. I asked for her to give better play. Then the next foul I called on her I warned and explained the reasoning of which the foul was called and she gave more attitude. It was not more than two minutes and she fouled again. She questioned the call in a sour way but I was willing to let the attitude go but not the persistent infringement. she proceeded to tell me what a horrible ref I was and I needed to get a clue. I just looked at her and shook my head and said I am sorry and took out the yellow card and asked her to leave when she was walking off the field she proceeded to call me names and show her disgust for having to endure such an awful ref. And she swore under her breath. SO the second yellow came and the automatic red to follow. So the first yellow for persistent infringement and second yellow for decent and then the automatic red for two yellows. |

1st caution was for retaliation after a foul by a player on the opposing team (throwing arm back and catching the other player in the face with an elbow). At the time of this caution there was some arguing about the caution, his teammates got him to walk away.
The second caution was due to the player taking the ball to the corner for a corner kick and ignoring my whistle and verbal instruction that the restart was ruled a goal kick. He deliberately walked to the corner with his back to me and did not acknowledge me until he was ready to take the kick, only then did he acknowledge my indication that the call was a goal kick. At that point he kicked the ball backwards off of the field and threw his hands up saying something that I could not understand possibly because it may have been in Spanish, I was not close enough to hear exactly what was said, his actions clearly communicated that he did not agree with the call. The deciding factor for the yellow card for dissent was that this interaction took 10 to 15 seconds and included multiple forms of dissent. |

The issued player came in aggressive and fouled the opposing team. The foul itself was not card worthy, however, after the whistle was blown and the fouled called #9 instantly flared up and was clearly dissenting the call and in the process called the official a "Fucker". The red card was shown and the player was ejected from the match.
After the match the ejected player did come over to the officiating team and apologized for his behavior. |

Game ended after 8:12 had elapsed in overtime following a successful goal by Carbon on a penalty kick, brought about by a foul committed by PH goal keeper.
As game wrapped and celebrating by carbon started, the Providence Hall goal keeper (Dante Montgomery - #1) was seen physically damaging the goal net in his frustration, Referee Eddy Roberts approached to retrieve game ball and calm player and direct him to join his team. Player Montgomery then kicked game ball into the parking lot, and then walked to the opposite side of his goal area where he performed an obscene gesture (flipped the bird) to the Carbon supporters.
At this point, I felt the his emotions had gone too far and I showed him a red card.
To my count, there are several possible red car offenses here.
1. Violent conduct towards the goal apparatus
2. Using insulting, offensive or abusive languages or gestures.
3. Multiple yellow card offenses.
If you have questions, I’d be more than happy to talk it over.

When I asked that he just zip it and say no more he couldn't stop and told me what an idiot I was. And other things under his breath walking away and waving me off like I meant nothing. |

Hey there Administrators I am sorry this did not come through as I thought it did Friday Night. As soon as I got home from the game I put this report in but I did a yellow card first then a red as a 2nd yellow and this did not get through to you. Sorry about that I now know not to do the report that way when it is a second yellow. I think that you can see my notes from the previous report but here are the details.
59th Minute Cottonwood was attacking and the ball was at the top of the penalty area. As the attacking player went forward the defender knocked the ball side ways and the attacking player then tripped. It appeared to all that he was tripped with the ball. I looked over at the AR and he was not signalling foul and I was not either as the defense made a great play but it looked real bad. Cottonwood players and coaches were upset with a call not being made. Timpview then gained control of the ball and began an attack.
As the players were coming back with the play of the ball at about 10 yards out from me #29 said "get your fucking head in the game". I said "hey watch your language". We continued down the field with play for about 15 yards and as he passed me again he said "where is your fucking mind?" I looked at the attack that timpview was making and I let it play out until cottonwood gain control of the ball( about 15 - 20 seconds) then I blew the whistle. I spoke loudly to all players "we will be starting here with an indirect free kick for Blue" and I raised my hand to signal that and then I went over to #29. Showed him the yellow card for foul and abusive language. At that point he raised his arm about chest high and flipped me off which all watched so my hands were tied and I issued a second yellow and then a red card. |

In the 74’ player Seth Nelson left the bench area as two players were ejected by David Wright. As I was separating a Tooele player from the Park City players, player Seth Nelson who was already ejected left his bench area and pushed me on the track area and said “we got this ref”. I immediately told him he never pushes or touches a referee, also he was already ejected earlier and this is a serious offense.

Britt Lilly -David Wright (2 man) |
During the game much disrespect was shown to both David Wright and myself. In the first half we even had Tooele fans yell out “to kill the Park City player”. David Wright and myself addressed these fans at halftime in a professional manner. They were argumentative but remained quiet in the second half. The PC administration was made aware in case they were to be removed from the game. Tooele is a very physical team that substitutes physical play for technical play. They ride a line of almost being completely out of control at times.
The coaches seem to disrespect referees even though they are both referees themselves. This goes against the code of conduct as a referee. After the 74’ and two players had been ejected assistant coach Seamus Leonard tells me “do your F*cking job. I did not officially eject him not shown him. Red card but would like UHSAA to know that Tooele HS seems to have a culture of allowing fans to scream out whatever they’d like. Allow players to be ejected and then go and push a referee. And they themselves yell out whatever they want. There is no respect for the game or the referees. I hope UHSAA would address Tooele HS coaches and this totally inappropriate behavior in their program. |

He was then shown his second caution for dissent and ejected from the contest.
After the contest had completed in a 3-1 victory for PG. This same player Jorge Valdizan who was previously ejected came over to midfield from his bench area and began to harass and say how bad I was as a referee. He came to our space to give his opinion. I would ask that UHSAA deal with this behavior after the completion of the game and only minutes after. He had already been ejected but still made it a point to seek me out, come to our space and referee zone and speak his discontent for the referee.

I was monitoring the injured player out of bounds and Dylan and Nathan. I immediately blew my whistle after the shove and watched what occurred within a few yards. Nathan of Summit Academy actually backed up after the shove and other players on both teams came to keep them separated. Even after Nathan had backed up from the situation Dylan continued to press forward and instigate something further happening. the action started when 2 players ( wendover high and grantsville high school)they both was making shoulder to shoulder contact in an upright position, so player # 7 from Grantsville pull the other player shirt and cause the player from wendover goes to the ground. I dont really dont know what happens but player # 7 from grantsville started kicking the other player when we was on the ground before we have a figh. I did decided to disqualified him with a red card to the player # 7 from Grantsville for misconduct on reckless play. I would like to let you know: there was 4 yellows cards.
