#9 No name 11/29/2016 Tooele Greg Oldroyd Player was given a technical foul for having an illegal number (#9)in the first half. Then the same player came in again with the same number in the second half, which constituted a 2nd technical foul and ejection. The coach was given 2 direct technical fouls, which by rule is an ejection. The rule is found on 10/6/4, page 65 in the rule book. The penalty is on the same page just below that. The coach refused to leave and was adamant that I show him the rule. I was close to calling the game a forfeit because of that. After leaving, he proceeded to come back into the gym. I had to tell him he cannot be visible anywhere in the gym area. He then stated, "You can't see anyway." After that there were no problems and the game finished without any complications. This same exact scenario has happened in 2 of the 3 games Tooele has played. The coach is slow to learn or he just plain could care less.
JV Boys coach. I don't know his name. 2016-11-29 Tooele Greg Oldroyd I explained on the first form. Please refer to that ejection form.
12-02-2016 Roy Ann Arrington Player #24 for Roy said "Holy Sh**" as he exited the floor for half time. We weren't completely sure if that was directed at the officials. We did not do anything at that time. In the 3rd quarter, #24 responded to a foul call by spiking the basketball. A technical foul was called by myself (Ann). In the 4th quarter, #24 received his 5th foul and then proceeded to chest bump an opponent and say "Get the F*** out of my face" A second technical foul was called by myself (Ann). I conferred with the other officials and then went to the Roy coach to explain what had happened. I told him what his player had said. He responded, "I don't believe you." Then the coach talked quickly to his player #24 and the coach then said to me, "My player said the other kid said it." I calmly told the coach that I was standing right there and it was unmistakable. I ejected the player. According to Rule 10-4 Penalty Note: A single flagrant technical foul or the second technical foul charged to a player results in a disqualification of the offender to the team bench. I erroneously had him leave the confines of the playing floor.
Puka Nacka 12-10-2016 Orem Jeff Pace I called a shooting foul on #2 from the C position table side, the Lone Peak player went to the ground face down and stayed there for 2 seconds, #2 claimed he was kicked by him, (neither myself nor Adam Stark or Ryan Severson seen a kick), after the foul call, #2 came over after the play and pushed the Lone Peak player 3-4 times Ryan came across in the lead position opposite and gave a Flagrant Technical Foul to him. We got together and discussed the play and ejected him. We don't have the time nor the Lone Peak player number i am sure it is on the film.
Jamie Keefer 2016-12-12 West Ridge Academy Terrence Ellis Statement from Referee Terrence Ellis To whom it may concern, The coach for West Ridge Academy was out of control from the very start of the game. In the first 15 seconds he was yelling at his players and in the first minute he was yelling at my partner and I about the other team playing dirty. We told him we hadn’t seen any dirty play and would look for it.In the 2nd quarter he continued to complain about the other team stating they were tripping and kicking his players. Again my partner and I discussed this and neither of us saw anything that could be construed as dirty. The head coach’s unprofessionalism rubbed off on his assistant who started to bark at my partner about the same issues and my partner issued the assistant a technical. The head coach got even more upset and per my partner he stated that neither of us are qualified to ref this level of basketball. At this point my partner told the coach we were done talking. The third quarter was fairly quiet until about one minute left in the third. His team was on a fast break and his player was fouled. I signaled the foul but before I could report it the coach was on the court screaming that this was bull crap and someone was going to get hurt. I told the coach that I had the foul and he stated he didn’t care and that this was all bull crap. I told the coach that was enough and he said no it isn’t its bull crap. (This entire dialogue is at a yell from the coach) At this point I issued the first technical to the head coach. I reported it to the table and I walked away to the other side of the court. My partner then started to give instructions to the school for the deaf & blind as to what was going to happen; (Todd is proficient in signing). At this point the head coach starts yelling at him and telling him that this was all bullcrap. Todd told the coach to please calm down because he didn’t want to eject him. The coach said he didn’t care and continued his tirade. At this point Todd issued the 2nd technical and I told the coach he had to leave the court. At first he refused to leave and after several requests I told him if he didn’t leave he would forfeit the game. The coach then left the confines of the court and we were able to finish the game. Statement from Umpire Todd Thurston, First quarter West Ridge coach was upset about dirty play and we discussed it. He continued barking at me so I said coach we are done and gave him an official warning. His assistance started barking and I asked him to please sit Down and he continued to bark about some trip. I have him a T. This settled down things until the end of the third. Coach from West Ridge was given a T by Terrence. The coach was very upset I tried to settle him down by stating we want To keep him in the game. He started screaming at us that this was bull crap several times and I ejected him with a second T.
Unknown 2016-12-22 Diamond Ranch Academy Joe Wright With about 3:30 left in the 4th quarter, #00 of DRA and #42 of PHS were both attempting to get a rebound. They both had their hands on the ball. I blew my whistle to call a held ball. As the players were separating #00 swung his right arm at #42's head. The swing did not make contact. I blew my whistle and signaled a technical foul followed by an ejection motion. I conferenced with my partner (Travis Roberts) that he had seen a definite swing as well. I reported the foul to the table as a flagrant technical foul. This was #00's fifth foul. We then administered the free throws for the foul.
JV Head Coach 2017-01-13 Rowland Hall Steven Layton JV Head Coach (HC), received an indirect Technical Foul a few minutes into the game due to having a player in the game who was not in the books. HC began arguing that the game should not have been started without "his" book filled out; He was informed that the home book is the official book and his book is inconsequential & that it is his responsibility to have all players in the official book. HC was warned that we officials, would not argue about rules that he doesn't know, understand, or agree with. HC was given a direct Technical Foul in the first half, for personal insults accusing me of being racist. HC was given a second direct Technical Foul later in the first half, due to causing a scene and shouting very loudly about how bad he felt the officiating was.
Unknown 2016-12-31 Cyprus Chad Leetham, Brandon Wilkins and Sean Morris With 1:06 left in the 2Q Cyprus #33 intentionally batted the ball away from the baseline after a made basket. Cyprus was given a delay of game warning. With 50.6 seconds left in the 4Q Cyprus #33 was called for a blocking foul, by myself, on the lower left block of the paint. Cyprus #33 proceeded to contest the call in a disrespectful manner saying his arms were up and kept his arms in the air while explaining. I told him he was right, but he had used his body and to"not come at me that way." He proceeded to continue to contest the call and began following me to the table. While reporting the foul Cyprus #33 intentionally threw the basketball to the other end of the floor. He was immediately assessed a Technical Foul by Official Sean Morris. Cyprus #33 proceeded to the bench, walked past Coach Trey Smith and began walking back toward the scores table pointing and yelling, "you suck you suck." I issued Cyprus #33 a second technical foul for sportsmanship and he was ejected from the game.
Head coach James Petereson 2017-01-06 Utah Military Academy Larry Fullenwider The head coach of the Utah Military academy was ejected. The coach was not happy about a no call that we had on the baseline with 20 seconds left in the 4th quarter. He and I had a talk earlier in the game of when it was appropitate to talk with the officials and when we could talk. He then called a timeout and we had a chat about the game and explained a few things to him. He had already recevied a Technical Foul earlier for screaming at the officials because of a foul that we did not call in the timely manner he expected and despite the fact that the foul was called for his team he continued to yell at my partner and I. He then received his First Technical Foul and was told that he lost his privleges to the coaching box and needed to sit on the bench. He then during the 4th quarter got off of the bench walked out onto the court as we attempted to go on with the game. When he came out and off the bench onto the court screaming and yelling he was tossed out of the game. The Coach then would not let me proceed forward to the table and made physical contact with me by bumping into me to impede my progress going to the table. After I asked him to leave he screamed more and was asked again to leave and was still attempting to prevent me from reporting the Technical Foul. While he was screaming at me he was raising his shoulders at me and sticking his chest out in a threatening manner. The Altamont adminstrator escorted him out of the building to the bus and told him that he was done and informed me that he had called the county sheriff to make sure that he was not to come back into the gym.
Ryan Heath 2016-01-13 North Sevier Chandler Cutler With about 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, I awarded Coach Heath his first Technical Foul after he visibly waved his hands at me in disagreement with an illegal screen I had made against one of his players. He requested an explanation for the Technical Foul which I granted him during the 3rd/4th quarter break, and during which I repeated what I had told him before the game; that if he wanted to discuss plays/calls I would be more than happy to have a discussion with him as long as the interaction remained professional, but that expressing resenment visibly in that manner was in my opinion an unsporting act and warranted penalty. With about 6 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, Coach Heath continued to complain about our foul selection and made derogatory/unsporting comments about me and our foul calling as I ran by him on at least 2 occasions following the first Technical Foul. I awarded him the second Technical and instructed him to leave the arena.
Luve Helu 2017-01-18 Tooele Gene Buell The umpire official Tony George called a intentional foul on the Tooele Player #44 . The call was made in the Key area and the player walked to mid court and yelled to the official " Hey ref *uck you " and I was near the table and it was loud enough for the entire place to hear it. This was in the 3rd quarter Tooele was down approx 15 points. I Gene Buell ejected him.
Lance Stubbs 2017-01-21 Parowan Jamie N Gorrell Coach was ejected for numerous unsporting comments directed at official. 4 sperate occasions during the game.
Zach Wilson 2017-01-24 Corner Canyon Matt Basham Referee: Matt Basham U1: Brad Carpenter U2: Rob Jones Corner Canyon had the last possession of the 4th quarter with time running short in a tie game. Matt Basham was at the trail position, Rob Jones at center, and Brad Carpenter was at lead. Corner Canyon attempted a drive to the basket and missed the shot. Provo got the rebound and missed a ¾ court shot as time expired with the score tied. I went to go retrieve the ball on Provo’s baseline and walked towards the scorer’s table. Brad came and told me that he had a technical foul on #1 for Corner Canyon and then reported it. I got Brad to discuss the situation regarding the technical foul. Brad stated that after time expired #1 for Corner Canyon came to him and said, “I fucking got hit on the shot!” Brad told #1 that he did not see a foul and, “Let’s go get ready for overtime.” At this point #1 shoves Brad in the stomach/chest area. I asked Brad to confirm what I understood to be intentional contact with him by #1, which Brad confirmed. With that being the case we informed the scorer that #1’s technical foul was flagrant and resulted in his disqualification. Brad and I got both coaches together to explain the situation involving the technical foul. The crew then got together again to discuss the administration of the flagrant technical foul. It was decided by the crew that Provo would be awarded two free throws as if the foul had been part of the 4th quarter. Provo made the first of two free throws and the game ended with Provo winning by one point. The way the penalty was administered was a misapplication of rule 5-6-4. Given the tie score, there was an extra period to be played; the two technical fouls should have been administered to start the overtime period. Then Provo would receive the ball for throw in at midcourt and Corner Canyon would have the possession arrow. Matt Basham
Joe Williams 2017-01-24 Skyridge Steven Layton Joe Williams, player #32 on Skyridge received two Technical Fouls and was ejected from the game.
Lance Mimnaugh 2017-01-27 Fremont Anthony Smith Coach started arguing that there were travels. I told him I'd watch for them. He kept arguing about it so I told him he was done talking. One of the next few times down the court he brought it up again so I gave him his first T. This was in the 1st quarter. In the 4th quarter after reporting a non shooting foul he looked at me and told me in a condescending way that I was incredible. I gave him his 2nd T.
Brad Garrett 02-14-2017 Water Canyon Darren Cole Coach Garrett received first technical from official Todd Meier. Coach Garrett asked me to explain the technical. After discussion with Todd Meier I explained to Coach Garrett that he received first technical for telling Todd Meier he was awful. After hearing the explanation Coach Garrett said "You guys are beyond ridiculous." I then issued the second technical foul. After telling Coach Garrett he needed to leave the floor he engaged the crowd with more unnecessary, disrespectful theatrics.
Adam Ponte 11-28-2017 Brighton Dominic Jones At 2:10 remaining in the 4th quarter, the player committed a flagrant foul. Brighton was down and most likely to lose. Above the three point line in the front court, Brighton had the ball. The fouling player set a screen, lowering his shoulder and hitting the defensive player's blind side violently.
JV Head Coach 2018-12-13 Clearfield Steven Layton Clearfield's JV Head Coach was ejected after receiving a second technical foul for unsporting behavior and derogatory comments directed towards the officials.
I don't remember his name 2017-12-19 Orem Sam Prestwich The player was identified early as a possible game wrecker with because of his play and attitude on the court towards the opponent and referee's. The two officials discussed how to approach his attitude and knew that he was one to watch. My partner was visibly annoyed that the player was at times not stopping at the sound of a whistle. The player would continue to try and strip or wrestle the ball away from the opponent. Several fouls were called on the player during the course of the game. During a transition of play for A.F. I was lead official running down court table side and was looking back over my shoulder at the action. Close to mid court I see #14 fully extend both arms and shove an opponent while saying, "Get the Fuck off". The shoved player stumbled backwards but stayed on his feet. I immediately issued a technical foul on #14 and ejected him from the game. I then explained to Orem's coach that player #14 was ejected for foul language. I consulted with my partner on the administration of the technical. Questions from the score keeper required me to approach the table. Whole at the table both Orem and A.F.coaches were chirping at me. I then issued official warnings to both coaches. 2 free throws and possession for A.F. Were awarded.
Jersey #4--Unknown--I was misinformed as to the information I needed for this report and did not get the players name. JV Coach name Levi Thompson 2017-12-20 South Summit Michael Mathie Tangle under the basket on a rebound. South Summit Player attempted to punch an opposing player (Manti) by jabbing at opposing players face with a closed fist punch.
Sophomore Head Coach 2018-01-09 Cottonwood Steven Layton Cottonwood Sophomore Head Coach was ejected after receiving his second direct technical foul for disrespectful behavior exhibited towards the officials and unsporting behavior. This technical foul was also the 3rd bench technical.
Ogden Sophomore Coach / Name Unknown 2018-01-10 Ogden Chris Hall 3rd Quarter around 6:00 mark I called a foul during a loose ball in front of Ogden's bench. I went to report the foul and while doing so, Ogden's coach was just a little bit out on th floor yelling at my partner about something that had happen either prior to or during the loose ball. After reporting the foul, he then starting yelling at me about our officiating. I held my hand up and told him that was enough. He continued to yell as loud as he could. I gave him a technical foul. He continued to yell. As I was grabbing my whistle for the second technical, he looked at me a said "Go ahead and do it." I then gave him his second technical and ejected him. He stormed off the floor yelling explicit words and kick open the door as he left the gym.
Don't Know 2018-01-05 Providence Hall Brianne Bremner There was a loose ball that ALA got a hold of. #3 got in the group where the ball was and grabbed the player's who had the ball neck. He was given an Intentional Foul but wasn't kicked out of the game.
Don't Know 2018-01-12 Lehi Brianne Bremner My partner Derek Turner called a foul and was reporting it to the desk while I was at the baseline underneath the hoop ready to administer the ball to the player after he was finished. He started talking to the coaches (Lehi) of the team he called the foul on. I don't know exactly what happened; Derek said they got personal so he gave the head coach a technical and told him to sit down. The assistant coach left the bench and followed Derek to the table after he (he says) had advised both coaches to sit down. He turned around and told the assistant coach to sit down which he didn't. Derek gave him a technical and started reporting it to the table. The coach still didn't sit down so Derek gave him another technical and ejected the assistant coach from the game. The coach left the gym and Derek finished reporting the fouls to the scorer's table.
Greg 2018-01-16 Skyridge Greg Carter #12 Dylan Samuels for Skyridge got fouled at 4:34 in the second quarter of the boys sophomore game, it was a shooting foul. As I was headed to the table he and a player from Timpanogas starting bumping each after the play had ended, so I stopped and started to walk back and help break them up, my partner stepped in between them to prevent any further problems, I was at the top of the key on the audience side. He started to go to the free throw line as he was doing so he was yelling at someone in the crowd (I wasn't paying attention to what the crowd was saying), suddenly Dylan starting yelling back to the crowd "score board, score board, score board" I didn't catch what the crowd said back, but Dylan responded by saying "shut up you piece of shit". So I gave him a technical foul, I went to the table to report the technical foul, and Dylan started walking off the court, I caught him before he got to the bench and told him that he still needed to shoot his free throws. As he was walking back to the free throw line, someone in the crowd yelled something at Dylan, he raised his arm above his head and he proceeded to flip them the middle finger. So I gave him a second technical and ejected him.
Unknown 2018-01-19 American Preparatory Dan Anderson Number 2 for American Preparatory WV received two technical fouls in separate halves for emphatically bouncing the ball after calls made by the officials. The balls bounced approximately 15-20 ft into the air.
Lars 2018-01-19 Stansbury Lars Birkeland With approximately 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter, a Bonneville player drove from the 3-point line toward the basket. At around the free throw line the player was maliciously hit from the side (by #10 of Stansbury) and knocked to the floor. There was a brief scuffle following the play. #10 was assessed a flagrant foul and was ejected from the game. #15 from Bonneville, as well as the Head Varsity coach from Bonneville, each were assessed with a technical foul.
Wasatch Freshman Assistant Coach 2018-01-25 Wasatch Steven Layton The assistant coach was ejected for receiving a second technical foul after disrespectfully addressing the officials and actions in direct contradiction to sportsmanship. His words and acts made a travesty of the game. After he was notified of the ejection, which was obvious and precisely directed to him for his flagrant actions, he continued to make a scene and was informed that he’s continued presence would constitute a forfeiture of the game by his team.
Unknown name Wasatch player #33 2018-01-25 Wasatch Steven Layton Player #33 was disqualified from participation in the remainder of the contest for committing an unsportsmanlike technical foul after he had been called for a “hard” common foul, where he shoved the opponent to the ground, stood over the opponent in an aggressive manner, then told the calling official to “learn the game.” This was a single technical disqualification.

Head Coach 02-07-2018 West Ridge Academy Greg Graves In the first half, my partner gave the coach an administrative warning for poor conduct. Moments later had to issue a technical foul. The coach told him that there is a reason that we were officiating the game and we were not good enough for that level. He then repeated that to me when I stepped in to remove my partner from the situation. At half time, I told my partner that we would make sure and keep rotating in order to keep him away from the coach. At the end of the 3rd quarter I noticed my partner was in the end of that team and went and forced the rotation, the band started playing so we were unable to hear exactly what the coach was yelling at my partner. Just under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, WRA player drove to the hoop and was blocked and the ball was given back to WRA under the basket. I switched sides and was in front of the coach, raised my hand for the inbound when the coach told me to check my wallet. I turned around and gave him his 2nd T and told him he needed to leave. He thanked me and told me it was about time. He then yelled to my partner to check his wallet because he had been cheating his kids all night. He then told me he was not leaving the floor and stood on the floor and stared at my partner. I could not see the administrator who was around the corner and I asked the Sheriff Deputy to please escort him from the floor. The coach then told the deputy that he would have to slap the cuffs on him to get him to leave. The deputy then placed his hand on his back and said, sir lets please go. The coach yelled don't touch me and then the 2 deputies and administrator escorted him out and stood by him in the tunnel through the remainder of the game. The coach refused to leave the confines of the arena. He stood where he could continue to stare at us every time we were at his end of the floor. When I first noticed this, I informed my partner that we would be exiting the floor at the opposite end of normal exiting.
Mitchell 2018-02-09 Orem Greg Graves In the second half of this JV game, the intensity started to pick up with both teams being a little more physical than in the first half. On a drive to the hole, number 22 felt like he got fouled. I was at Trail, when I noticed he was starting to run with some intensity. I noticed the look in his eye and followed him as he ran in front of Salem Hills player and ran with him for about five or six steps. After crossing half court, he turned over his right shoulder looked at the player and punched him in the groin. I was no more than five or six feet from the players when this happened. I had an extremely good view of the punch and I know exactly what I saw. I immediately gave him a technical and ejected him from the game. I explained to the coach what happened, and he did not argue he just wondered if it was necessary for the ejection. I informed him that it was my judgment that the intention was there to warrant the action which I gave the player. The Orem coach had warned me that the Salem Hills player was really rough with that particular player in the sophomore game before this. I let him know that I was not on the game and I’m here to officiate this game, however it should be noted that the player that got punched did end up receiving an intentional foul near the end of the game for elbowing a player in the chest with two players on the ground.
Cole Salmon 02-13-2018 Viewmont Al Bingham Had around 10 seconds left in the game, Box Elder player went into score on a short shot and was blocked and fouled by a Viewpoint player. #30 (I believe that was his number - Barry had his number) from Box Elder came in some 3-4 seconds after the play was whistled and shoved the Viewmont player in the back with both hands who had blocked the shot and fouled the Box Elder shooter. It happened right in the middle of the key. He shoved him several feet forward. Barry and I quickly both jumped in to separate the players -- I from the baseline and he from the trail position. I was standing next to the player from Box Elder who shoved the Viewmont player, when another player from Viewpoint, Number 4, came running in from about 20 feet away and yelled out to the Box Elder player and I, "I am going to Fu_____ G__ Dam kill you." He yelled it right in front of my face. He was ready to start fighting and was fortunately stopped before he was able to land any punches and throw anyone around. We ejected both the player from Box Elder (#30) and the Viewmont player (#4). I threw out the Viewmonth player and Barry threw ou the Box Elder player. The coaching staff at Viewmont were furious with us for ejecting their player because it could "impact the varsity game." That is disappointing.
#30? 02-13-2018 Box Elder Al Bingham See above -
cole salmon 2018-02-13 Viewmont Barry Beveridge we had a hard foul at the end of the game by viewmont. a retaliation from box elder 33. which lead to number 4 on viewmonts ejection. my partner decided whatever he heard that it merited an ejection.
Holgate or holegreen? 2018-02-13 Box Elder Barry Beveridge this individual was the one to instigate a fight after a hard fould against his teammate. with a hard push, he spurred the reaction from 4 for viewmont. i felt number 4 on viewmont couldn't be the only won ejected in the confrontation. please call for clarification or if you have any questions.
(Unknown) Head Coach-Snow Canyon Freshman Boys 2018-02-16 Snow Canyon Darren Cole There was contact on the baseline that my partner Ryan Jones missed. The player was hit in the face and did not inform Ryan and walked with the ball. Ryan blew the whistle and called traveling. At that point I turned and saw the boy put his hand to his face indicating he was injured. As I ran over to the player, the Snow Canyon head coach came out on the floor and was screaming at Ryan. I called an immediate technical foul and then walked the coach back to the bench. The assistant coach had gone to the player who was hurt. The head coach continued screaming at Ryan. I tried to calm him and asked him to talk to me. But he kept screaming at Ryan. I warned him twice that he would receive a second technical if he did not calm down. I issued the second technical when he did not comply. I then asked him to leave the floor. He refused and continued screaming at Ryan who by this time was at the other end of the floor. I continued to tell him to calm down and leave. He refused. I warned him that he was about to get a third technical. He still continued screaming. I issued a third technical and then asked the bench personnel to get administration and security. That is when the assistant grabbed the head coach and pushed him towards the exit. I spoke with the assistant for a few minutes and he agreed with me that I gave him several warnings that the head coach ignored. During this whole time my demeanor was calm. After discussing the matter with the other officials from the other game I realize I probably should not have issued the third technical and instead summoned security after his refusal to leave after the second technical.
Adams 2018-02-16 Payson Jose Valle Intentionally pushed a player from Salem's team and player retaliated. 2nd technical for both players
Burton 2018-02-16 Salem Hills Jose Valle Retaliated after Payson player intentionally pushed him
