On Saturday I ejected Mr. Jones for Flagrant Misconduct . At the end of the match, Mr. Jones shoved his opponent. I gave a Unsportsmanlike Conduct first, which deducted 1 team point. After the wrestlers shook hands, Mr. Jones walked over to the head coach of Corner Canyon Jeff Eure to shake hands, after shaking with Coach Eure, Mr Jones used foul language towards Coach Eure and his wrestler, I stepped in between these gentleman before it escalated. His continued taunting and language warranted the Flagrant Misconduct, which led to his ejection. |

Coach was warned for misconduct after questioning a judgment call which he thought was a mis-application of a rule. He continued to argue threatening to "take it to the state" at which point I assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
He then swore at me telling me it was "bull s... that I can't talk to him with respect" at which point I determined it was flagrant misconduct and asked him to leave. He then repeated his comment about it being BS adding the F- word.
He left the gym but returned. I believe that he actually talked to his team in the locker room prior to leaving. |

Tyler Scheurn @132lbs from North Summit was ejected from the Rocky Mountain Rumble for flagrant misconduct.
In the last :20 of the match, Tyler was loosing by 5 points. He became frustrated and threw an aggressive cross face. It didn't connect, but I stopped the match and penalized him for unnecessary roughness.
We restarted the match in referees position and Tyler wound-up and clubbed his opponent in the back of the head. I ejected him with this one for Flagerant Misconduct.

During a match at the 1A Divisional tournament, Kolton Owens( who has a history of concussions/head injuries and wears a special type of state approved head gear) was wrestling Wade Jeffery from Wayne High School. Knowing Kolton Owens pre-existing medical conditions I was more conscientious of his risk for a head injury. Wade Jeffery worked a move in a manner that placed Kolton Owens on his back in near-fall criteria, the move was a reversal/take down to his back in near-fall criteria where Wade Jeffery had a tight waist around the body of Kolton Owens and was working to secure a fall with a reverse half. Wade Jeffery shot his hand towards the lower head/neck area of Kolton Owens. Kolton Owens was making struggling/ grunting noises, typical noises heard during a wrestling match, while trying to remove himself from the above stated situation. As Wade Jeffery continued to work for the reverse half (having met a 5 count for a 3 point near-fall) Kolton Owens tone of voice changed saying "my neck, my neck!" At this point I asked Kolton Owens if he was injured and he told me he was injured causing me to stop the match and start injury time. After I blew my whistle Kolton Ownes stated that he could not feel his legs, stating "my neck, my neck, I cant feel my legs." I called over Kolton Owens coach, as well as his father who is also a coach from the coaches corner to attend to their injured wrestle. Injury time was running as I made my way back to the table to ensure that they had the correct points(4 point near-fall) and started the correct clock for injury time(1:30sec). I stood at the middle edge of the mat watching over the injured wrestler and appropriate clock, indicating the time to the coaches and wrestler. As Kolton Owens injury time expired (0:00) I asked him if he was able to continue, at this time he, his coach(who is a Medical Doctor), father, and the trainer that had arrived all said that he was able to continue the match and he would wrestle. Showing no signs of being injured, we continued the match with Kolton Owens on bottom position and Wade Jeffery in top position. This report is an incident report only. |

Was given a coaches misconduct during the match, then after the match was over came to the table and told me how “poorly officiated” he felt the match to be, I told him I could explain the calls in question if he’d like to walk over onto the side of the mat (so that I could talk to him while the next match started) at this point he’s said he didn’t want the calls explained. However he refused to leave and kept talking to me. He told me his name (Steve Sanderson) as if to intimidate me and asked for mine, and I told him we could talk with the head official if he’d like. At this point he taunted me exagerating the gestures that I had used when explaining this. I felt disrepected multiple times throughout the match and immediately thereafter. And as per the unsportsmanlike conduct rule, it can be deemed as a flagrant foul. I did my best to remove myself from the situation, but as soon as Coach Sanderson tried to make it personal that is where I drew the line between unsportsmanlike and flagrant. How can we expect the athletes to compete with a high level of sportsmanship if the coaches do not exemplify that as well. |

Stall warning given to wrestler from Salem Hills. Coach questioned the call from bench. A misconduct was given to coach. He then asked for conference at table. Explanation given at head table for stall warning, which was accepted, but he then questioned that I could not give a misconduct if he did not ask for meeting at table. At that time, I gave a unsportsman like conduct call. As he was walking away from table he slammed his clipboard on his knee, papers flying every where, so second unsportsman like conduct given and ejection. Surprised at conduct. On 1-5-18 at Herriman High School. I was officiating Dunn who was wrestling in the Varsity 1st round dual at the Herriman High Dual Tournament. Dunn was representing Davis High in a dual match against Pleasant Grove, his opponent was Robert Delamore.
In the 1st round of the match, Dunn got upset that I did not call near fall, he yelled out something in the effect that "that's bull". I cautioned Dunn about this behavior and I started the 2nd round. Both Dunn and Delamore had shown to be high level wrestlers in the match. A scramble occurred in the 2nd round that put Delamore in the offensive position and Dunn in near fall criteria. Delamore had Dunn in a head and arm pinning combination. Dunn pointed to his neck and said " I can't breathe" Dunn made chocking noises and tapped his hand in a " tap out". I checked to see if Delamore's hold was legal, it was. I also checked Dunn to make sure he was not being restricted with air. Dunn continued to make a chocking sound. I could see that Dunn had color in his face, I did not see any sign of distress other than Dunn was making chocking noise and was saying he could not breathe. I continued to count the near fall and looked underneath for the fall. As I looked up, I saw Dunn punch Delamore several times in the back of the head with his fist. I immediately stopped the match and separated Dunn and Delamore. This situation I described took place in just a few seconds. Coaches from Davis and Pleasant Grove both came and assisted me by taking their wrestler. Delamore did not retaliate against Dunn. Shortly after I signaled that Dunn was ejected for Flagrant Misconduct. A male adult identifying himself as Dunn's father came out of the stands and onto the mat and confronted me about the situation. Dunn's father started yelling at me, calling me an idiot and asked if this was my first year officiating. I told him to leave immediately, he refused. Dunn's father was a large adult male, he continued yelling at me and standing right in front of me. I tried to move him of the mat and he refused. I disengaged and asked the table workers to go get an administrator. Dunn and his Father left the mat area and shortly afterward left the building prior to any of the Herriman administration arriving. I continued the rest of the dual meet and tournament without any other problems.
I had several discussions with the Davis High Head Coach, Bo Roundy about this situation. Coach Roundy agreed with the way I officiated this match and apologized repeatedly for Dunn's behavior. |

Dan Hillery |
Following the 138 LBS match of the finals for the Richards Memorial wrestling tournament Don Christensen and I were next to the head table and the bleachers. During this time, we saw Coach Rusty Lofthouse from Mountain Crest moving towards the bleachers in an aggressive manner. He was yelling and pointing to someone in the bleachers right next to us.
By the time Christensen and I were able to get to Lofthouse he was already into the bleachers and his progress was being stopped by other spectators. Once back onto the gym floor I instructed Lofthouse he was being removed from the event for flagrant misconduct, Rule 7-5-5. Lofthouse’s behavior was aggressive and threating towards the spectator was a poor display of sportsmanship.
Lofthouse gathered his things and left the event. Following his leaving, 3 team points were removed from the Mountain Crest in accordance with the penalty chart. Christensen and I met with the tournament director and the Head Coach of Mountain Crest to explain the ejection and the points removed.

During the consolation 285-pound match number 300 Kingsley Holiday of Corner Canyon High School was wrestling Mackie Christensen of Alta High School. Christensen took Holiday to the mat in a near fall situation. As near fall was being counted it was observed Holiday was injured and the situation needed to be stopped. As I started to blow the whistle to start the stoppage for injury time Holiday started screaming obscenities at Christensen and striking him in the face. At this time, it was determined Flagrant Misconduct rules, 7-4-3, had been violated by Holiday. I was able to separate the two wrestlers before any further strikes or attacks happened.
Coach’s from both schools were asked to come onto the mat to ensure the wrestlers were separated. I indicated the signal for flagrant misconduct, which removed Holiday from further participation in the event and 3 team points would be deducted from Corner Canyon because of the Flagrant Misconduct action of Holiday. The Corner Canyon coach was made aware of the infraction and team point deduction as well has the head table.
